Home Insurance Company
Whichever home insurance company you choose to protect your assets and personal belongings, you will need to firstly think carefully about what cover you require, as each homeowner and property is individual, with individual insurance needs.
Luckily any home insurance company you are interested in is likely to have a broad range of products, allowing you to almost create a ‘tailor made’ policy to suit your circumstances.
One thing to consider is whether there is anything out of the ordinary that you need to declare to your insurer, for instance:
If you are self employed and work from home – If your office is in your home, a standard policy may not cover your office equipment and furniture, so you will need to enquire about this specific need with your insurer when asking for a quotation.
Jewellery, art, antiques, coin collections and so on – Your home insurance company is unlikely to offer, as standard, cover for high value art, jewellery or collectables. You will need to instead declare each individual item and detail their value, so that they can provide you with a custom quotation for protecting these items. You may even be asked to take photographs of these items for reference.
Flooding - Depending on your location your policy may not cover you for flood damage; if your property is prone to this, you may need to approach a specialist insurer.
